Het was moeilijk
kiezen tussen Westerik en Willink, beide zijn in Europa nauwelijks bekend en echt aansprekend werk hebben ze beide
niet gemaakt. Desalniettemin heb ik gekozen voor dit werk
omdat we ons allemaal wel eens hebben gesneden aan gras. In
dit werk is het zover uitvergroot dat je het gras, de pink
en de duim aan de linkerhand maar deels kunt zien. Ik
vermoed overigens dat het de linkerhand is omdat ik
geprobeerd heb om deze pose in te nemen. Bij het uitsnijden
van dit werk heb ik overigens een fout gemaakt, ik heb de
snee wel gesneden, maar ik heb de wond achtergelaten op het
origineel.
Ook in veel andere
werken staan mensen, dieren en planten centraal in een
dramatische situatie. In zijn werk "De visvrouw" won hij in
1961 de Jacob Marisprijs, er onstond hierover veel tummelt
omdat men het werk lelijk vond. Met het werk "De visvrouw"
maakte hij echter een beging aan een serie eigenzinnig
figuratieve schilderijen over kwetsbare, op machteloze
menspoppen lijkende personages. Op de gevel van een school
op de Beukelsdijk in Rotterdam hangt momenteel een werk uit
deze serie.

It was hard to chose between Westerik and Willink, both are
hardly known in Europe and they didn't made really appealing works for as I know. Nevertheless I chosed ths
artwork because we all have the experience that we cut our
hands once in our life at a grass blade. In this work we see
an exaggerated close-up from the grass, the little finger
and the thumb from the left hand. I suggest that this is the
left hand because I tried to pose the painted hand, which
was difficult. When I cut my artwork I made a mistake, as I
cut the curve in de finger I forgot to cut the wound which I
left at the orginal artwork.
Also in many other works are images of people, animals and
plants embroiled in a dramatic situation. In 1961 he won with his work
"The fish women" the Jacob Marisprize. After they presented the winner
many people start to discuss about the ugliness of the artwork. With
this artwork "The fish women" he started to make a serie wilfull
figurative artworks about vulnerable, powerless human dolls. On the
front of a public school on the Beukelsdijk in Rotterdam you can see a
work from this serie.
