Met dit werk
heb ik om verschillende redenen twee werken overgeslagen. Op
30/6 zal ik daarom een werk van Jan Willem Hament uitbrengen
en op 3/7 een werk van Jean Hélion. Overigens kan je mijn
CD-rom met de eerste duizend kunstwerken al per e-mail
bestellen voor slechts € 12,50.
Dit zwembad
van David Hockney heeft hij geschilderd als aanval op de
weergave van clichés in de kunst om gecompliceerde
verschijnselen weer te geven, zoals kabbelend water in een
zwembad. Een tweede thema in zijn schilderijen is zijn eigen
homoseksualiteit. Het derde thema is Hockneys ontdekking van
Amerika en dan vooral het leven in Zuid-Californië. Het
opspattend water, hier rechts van de gele duikplank, voldoet
aan zowel het eerste als het tweede thema bovendien maakt
dit werk deel uit van een serie enorme doeken gemaakt in de
tuien van welvarend Californië.
De
meeste kunstwerken van Hockey behoren nog tot het
particulier bezit, desalniettemin wordt Hockney in 9 van de
10 kunstboeken genoemd. Hockney woonachtig in Los Angeles
werkt behalve met kwasten ook met film, fotografie en video. |

David Hockney painted this swimming-pool as attack on the
reproduction of cliché in art to paint complicated situations, like
rippling water in a swimming-pool. A second theme in his paintings is
his own homosexuality. The third theme is Hockneys discovery of Amerika
and then especially the life in South-California. The splash, right to
the yellow diving board, meets the first as well as the second theme.
Besides this work belongs to a serie of enormous paitings made in the
back-yards of wealthy California.
Most
artworks from Hockey are in private-ownership, nevertheless Hockney is
named in 9 out of 10 artbooks. Hockney still lives in Los Angeles and
works besides pencils also with film, photo and video.
