Umberto Boccioni
(The street enters the house)
*1882 Reggio di Calabria - †1916 Verona
Spengel Museum Hannover, 1911

This Italian artist is a painter, a sculptor and one of the founders of the Italian Futurists. One of Umberto Boccioni's favored subjects was his mother. Boccioni featured her in at least 45 paintings, drawings, etchings, and sculptures. You can find her at the balcony in the middle of this painting. Using Cubist distortions and fragmentation, Boccioni attempted to undermine the accepted concepts of proportion, harmony, and beauty. His aim, was to express the dynamic of the shape. He attempt to achieve this by approaching an object from different visual angles.

Untill now, this is the most complicated work I made. Furtherone, this work is particular topical due to the rebuilding of San Salvador after the earthquake. The work express a noisy city with many workers in a buildingsite surrounded by poles. Right-below in the work you can find two horses. Initial I missed those two horses, but kneadable wood gave me the possibility to correct the linocut and the two horses are now on the place were they belong.
