9999 |
New York |
|
PERFORMANCE |
4-11 Sep 1999 |
|
Description: |
At 9-9-99 Jan Willem Hament and I tried to break through
as artist in New York. Jan Willem Hament made in New
York 99 artworks in the days before “9999”, a day which
should be rembered as the big crash because “9999” was a
stopcode for many dos-computerprogramms. But nothing
happens; the stop-code wasn’t harmfull. So we couldn’t
take advantage of the expected chaos. Nevertheless, our
presentation of the 99 artworks in front of the
Guggenheim Uptown in New York was a big success as we
were invited by two galleries to exhibit our works.

Erik Van Loon Banknotes |

|
ART MONEY |
Sep 2003 untill now |
|
Description: |
Since September 2003 I pay with my own ‘Erik Van Loon
Banknotes’. Those banknotes are original Euro banknotes,
which are enriched with the stamp: Erik Van Loon; Kunst;
Rotterdam. I started to issue my banknotes after the
theft of 3.000.000 euro from the Boijmans van Beuningen
Museum in Augustus. In one of the newspapers was written
“het geld is ongemerkt verdwenen’ (the money slipped
away without notice). For me the word ‘ongemerkt’
(unmarked) was the trigger to mark my banknotes with my
Erik Van Loon stamp.
The headers:
|
- Rotterdams Dagblad: |
Boijmans lost three million euro in portion. |
|
- Volkskrant |
3 million embezzled at Boijmans |
|
- Trouw |

Freedomballet FREE |
Netherlands |
|
BALLET |
Aug 2003 - |
|
Description |
For more then
two years I tried to realize freedomballet FREE. FREE is
a dance tryptich about uprising National Socialism,
Second World War and liberation(s) and is except an anti
fascist ballet (part I ALONE), also an anti-warballet
(part II WAR) and a freedomballet (part III Liberate).
Several theaters in the Netherlands and abroad were
interested but I couldn’t get the $ 350.000,- to realize
this Freedom Ballet.
That is
actually why I decided last year to try to realize Free
in the United States following the footsteps of the
French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi who devoted
21 years of his life to realize the Statue of Liberty.
He succeeded after he talked in 1871 President Ulysses
S. Grant and others into funding and installing this
symbol of freedom in New York. |

|
Description: |
An 11 hours silent
document about the Auschwitz Deathmarch. The audience
can walk like the filmmaker the same 64 km long
evacuation route at which 58.000 prisoners had to march
ten days before the liberation of Auschwitz. The
Nazi-regime evacuated those prisoners to other
extermination or concentration camps.. In the group of
prisoners was among others also Peter van Daan (the
friend of Anne Frank) who survived the Deathmarch but
died on Mai 5th 1945 (Dutch Liberationday) in
concentrationcamp Mauthausen. Some 20,000 are thought to
have perished, due to underfeeding, exhaustion, cold
(-20OC) and execution along this path. |

I Will Win |

|
PAINTING |
Nov 2005 – Nov 2007 |
|
Description: |
The 37.000
runners and 260 million viewers in 125 countries of the
ING New York City Marathon get every year the
opportunity to preview for a 6-7 seconds my latest I
Will Win self portrait. Since 2005 I reveal each year my
newest self portrait (10 x 6m.) along the course of the
NY City Marathon.
Originally, I Will Win
is designed as a Space Artwork inspired by Google Earth
as I Will Win can be photographed from space as big as a
stamp.
My first I Will
Win self portrait I Will Win (1) was a traditional self
portrait in the Dutch colors red, white, blue and orange.
I Will Win 2 – The News was a self portrait in which I
combined words with pictures
in order to demonstrate the use of letters and words in
imagery to challenge and stimulate the viewer’s
experience of my second self-portrait The News. In The News, I
painted myself as front page of the New York Times. At the finish
photo you could see me winning the ING NY City Marathon
in a world record of 2:04;30 and in the articles you
could find information about my past, present and future. |

At the opening of my exposition at Galery De Oplichterij
I painted the work “Genua, 21 june 2001” in
commemoration of Carlo Guilliani, killed at the WTO-demonstrations
in Genua at 21 june 2001. |
Goodbye(film)
|
‘2001 |
On 01-01-2002, at 00.00 I laid down on the railtrack of
the railway bridge ‘De Schie’ in Rotterdam.
Unfortunately their were no trains, so I decided to jump
naked from the bridge into the ice-cold water with the
fireworks in the top. I registered everything in a sad
and really happened movie. |
|
|
Goodbye
At 21 July 2001 Carlo Gulinani died during a
demonstration against the World Trade Organisation in
Genua.
At 11 September 2001 thousands of anonymous people died
in the ruins of the World Trade Center in New York.
They all have in common that they died for a new world
order. I can’t wait any longer, in a few minutes their
is for always peace.
